About Township Garden Route

The Bedford Township Garden Route was initiated ten years ago by Thembani/ Eagle Hout Integrated Projects with the aim of bringing township residents into the mainstream of the garden festival. ‘We believe that by co-creating a united community where no-one is left out, we can overcome differences and learn to share and grow stronger together,’ says Dr Lana-Loraine Blom, founding co-ordinator of the project. Thanks to hard work and dedication our founding township gardeners have served as role-models to their neighbours, establishing a culture of pride in gardening and housekeeping. Within a few years, the Township Open Gardens had become a major contributor to the Garden Festival. We reached a record high in 2017 with 50 open gardens. Each of them in their own small way is writing their own success story and setting an example to other towns.

50 gardens open from 8h00 to 17h00 on Friday 20 October and Saturday 21 October 2017 (NB closed on the Sunday of the Bedford Garden Festival)
